What causes a spelling mistake?
The Most Common Spelling Mistakes and Causes of Them
For bloggers who write in English, but whose
native language is not English, spelling errors can turn into a nightmare.
Making mistakes while writing a blog in English shows either they do not know
English very well, or they are not carefully writing their articles, which may
cause them to lost their popularity or jobs.
So bloggers try to make less mistakes while
writing and they use some ways to do so. The less mistakes you make, the better
your article is. And with less mistakes, your aticle’s chance of getting
published in a bigger site increases.
To make less mistakes, you should know the
mistakes you make. And spelling errors are caused by two main reasons: 1) not
being careful and 2) lack of language knowledge.
The mistakes caused by not being careful enough are easier to detect and correct. These are basically typos, a wrongly pushed letter on a keyboard makes the word wrong. For example if the word is written as “thanlful” is a typographical error, shortly typo or misprint, it should be “thankful”, but the writer pushed a wrong letter on the keyboard and the word looks incorrect. The best way to correct these kind of mistakes is to read your article again after finishing writing and using the words spellcheck. If you use writing on Wordpress, just copy and paste the article on Word, and use spellcheck. To use spellcheck on Word, you need to select text and then press F7. Word detects and offers to correct your mistakes. The fact that correcting is optional is an important part because you may not correct the mistakes sometimes, if it is a quotation for example. The other reason why typos occur is the fact that the writer does not write the article carefully enough. As a writer, you should not write your articles while lying down for instance, you need to write it when you are concentrated enough and on a desk. If you are not comfortable-or too comfortable- when you are writing, this will eventually cause typos.
In conclusion, for typos, you need to
spellcheck your article using Word, and maybe other tools, and write it
carefully, preferably on a tidy and neat desk.
The other kind of mistakes, whose reason is
the lack of knowledge of the language, take longer to correct. Writers
make these kind of mistakes because they do not know the language, or they do
not know some particular uses. As a foreigner, it is only natural that they do
not know some parts of the language, because they do not normally speak the
language, English, in their daily lives. Of course it should not be expected
from them to know idioms for example, but sometimes the mistakes are so
obvious, and it can be said that the writers lack knowledge of English or the
format they write. These are mainly wrong uses of the language, not misuses.
For example the use of apostrophe(‘) is one of the most common issues. Using
astrophe is needed before -s, which states possession, but before -s, which
makes regular nouns plural, there is no apostrophe needed, this is a knowledge
of the grammar and if the writer is confused, they can make a mistake here. For
example a sentence like “My brothers bike is blue.”, is wrong, and the cause of
the error is a wrongly used apostrophe. The correct is “My brother’s bike is
blue.”, because the sentence is about a bike which belongs to the “brother”
mentioned. To make fewer mistakes of this kind, the writer should read a lot.
They should read about the format and the topic they write about. And they
should read about grammar too. With reading, they will make less mistakes of
this kind. And the other solution may be, if they have the chance, using
English in speaking. That may sound irrelevant, but once they start to speak
and think in English, they will automatically correct their errors if they make
this kind of error.
For writers, mistakes can be a big problem. A
writer’s opinions can be perfect, but if they constantly make errors, it is
hard for them to get the job they deserve as writers. To prevent this, writers
should read a lot about formats and topics they work on.
