The Most Misspelled Words in English and a solution!

The Most Misspelt Words in English

Do you remember your school days when your teacher used it to take surprise dictation and would repeatedly ask some of her favorite words that you always get wrong? Well, in English many words sound differently but are spelled somewhat differently, so trust me on this that it wasn’t your fault.

Therefore, if you happened to lose the game by getting a spelling wrong in the “Spelling Bee” of your school or you are continuously fed up of your Word documents underlining some words red because they are not right, remember There are thousands of well literate people who get confused and end up writing a wrong spelling of some certain words. That is why we say, it’s time to memorize the correct spelling, or at least take note of some of the wrongest spelled words in English so that you can be extra careful next time when writing or spelling these words.

Following are the list of some of the very commonly misspelled words in English;

 1.      A lot- the right way to write this is as ‘a lot ‘but mostly people miswrite this as alot.

 2.      Received- being the right spelling is mostly written as received by many people. The reason is simply getting confused and writing whatever spelling comes to mind with a flow.

3.      Separate- Remember that separate is with an ‘a’ and not ‘e’. Usually, it's confused with writing separate which is not right.

4.      Until- until it is with a single l. Most of the people make the mistake of putting two ls at the end because, in pronunciation, you can hear two ls.

5.      Because- Because it is usually misspelt as becuase. Remember to put the ‘u’ after the ‘a’ and not before it.

6.      Beginning- What people make a blender is when they put a single ‘n’ in this word. If you put a little mind to it and some ears to it, you can hear the two n’s.

7.      Different- Are you the one who forgets the ‘e’ after the double ‘f’ and make it look like this, ‘different’ instead of being as ‘different’? Well, simply put, just don’t do it.

8.      Occurred- Is usually misspelt as ‘occured’. People generally forget to put double ‘r’.

9.      Believe- This one is always confusing for me too. Whenever I’m writing something, I have to do a double-take to think for once for the correct spelling. And it’s only after I put some thought into it that I finally come up with the right spelling. The correct spelling, I write is ‘beleive’, and it’s not my fault that these spellings are convincing enough as well.

10.  Behavior- This one can also be written as ‘behaviour’. If you are the one who likes to put ‘u’ with every ‘o’ then you might go with the latter spelling. However, the most acceptable form of writing in Europe is to write it without a ‘u’.

11.  Which- written as ‘wich’ is very rare though, and most people who are low on practice writing make the mistake. If you are the one who repeatedly misspell this, practice reading books.

12.  Truly- As the word, ‘true’ has an ‘e’ at the end, therefore, when you are writing ‘truly’ and writing is not what you mostly do, it is very possible for you to get confused and end up writing ‘truely’, after all, there is an ‘e’ in ‘true’.

13.  Really- Again, you might just forget to put double ‘l’ at the end of it. Remember to focus on your tongue when you try to say it, if you do that, you won’t have it wrong.

14.  Definitely- again, a word that has me confusing. So, what I do is, I simply write the wrong spelling, that is ‘definately’ and then just let my phone’s or laptop’s dictionary work…

15.  Entrepreneur- Although its pronunciation is very fancy and stuff, but its spellings are enough of a confusion. So, until you don’t make logic of its spelling in your head or don’t memorize it, you are going to get it wrong.

16.  Embarrass- misspelled as ‘embaras’. Remember to put a double ’s’ at the end instead of a single one.

17.  Consciousness- Trust me, the length of its spelling might scare you away, but the longer the spelling, the easier they are. First of all, spell ‘conscious’ in your head and then add ‘ness’ at the end. Ta da, you have the right spelling!

18.  Usage- Its usage and not ‘use-age’.

19.   Vacuum-I usually ends up writing vacuum as vaccum. Which is of course not right. Remember its ‘u’ that you have to double and not ‘c’.

20.   Misspelled- written wrongly as mispelled. Again, break the spelling into two; first, spell ‘miss’ in your head and then add ‘pelled’.
